Donald Trump announces tariffs of 25 percent on EU products "soon"

The US President said at his first cabinet meeting that tariffs on products from the European Union will be “broadly speaking” 25 percent.
US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday at his first cabinet meeting in the White House that tariffs on products from the European Union will total 25 percent. "We will announce them very soon and they will be broadly 25 percent," said Trump. This will apply to cars and other goods.
US tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico also amount to 25 percent. According to Trump, these will come into force at the beginning of April.
Trump had threatened reciprocal tariffs on imports from countries that treated the US "unfairly", including the EU states. "If they impose a tariff or a tax on us, we will impose exactly the same amount of tariff or tax on them, it's as simple as that," he said two weeks ago when signing a memorandum to prepare the tariffs.
The EU has already announced a "decisive and swift" response to the possible imposition of punitive tariffs by the USA. "In order to protect European interests, we would have no choice but to respond decisively and swiftly," said EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic last week in Washington. Additional US tariffs on EU products would create unnecessary export barriers for companies and their employees on both sides of the Atlantic.
